I was getting random blue screens on Windows 8. I had hoped upgrading and changing RAM would fix it, but it hasn’t helped.

I also had the hope that Windows 10 upgrade might fix it. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I don’t care for Windows 8. Is it time for me to put Ubuntu on here? I used WhoCrashed program to try to figure out what was causing the problem. I have copied and pasted the information it gave me. If you need more information, please let me know.

If you have completed all the troubleshooting steps and have not been able to overcome this difficulty you could try doing a refresh which will reinstall the operating system but should not affect your personal files.

Refresh is part of reset in Windows If the issue remains and you do not wish to do a full recovery you may wish to contact HP support for assistance. They can remotely connect to your system with your permission to help with difficulties. Should you decide to do the recovery there is an option during the process to backup your personal data to prevent loss.

I appreciate your help. I’m not a fan of HP’s Tech Support since they wouldn’t help me on this issue because they suspected it was software-related and it likely is.

Links are in my previous post to assist with that process. The downgrade to Windows 8 seems to be the only solution to my issue. At least until my ancient PC’s drivers get appropriate updates. If you do the recovery and wish to reattempt the upgrade to Windows 10 here is documentation that may help.

Resolving Blue Screen errors in Windows

 

Is your PC greeting you with a black screen, a never-ending rotating circle, or just a Windows logo when you try to boot up? It could be anything! Seeing a black screen before login?

Or after login? Or how about a black screen with only a cursor? The possible causes of a black screen could be:. Note that the solutions look very different depending on whether the black screen happens before you see the login screen or after.
