First off, I have only been with the company for less than 2 months. I bought one of our users a new desktop and he had Visio Standard installed on him old computer. He has the Visio box with the product key and it has a link to download the software. When we enter the product key on the site it prompts us to login to a Microsoft account which we do not know. My questions are, can we transfer the license to the new computer?
I read a post that said you cannot transfer this license. Is there a way to transfer the user account without knowing it? If I log in with my Office account it says that I do not have a licensed product on my account. Look on the box at the product key. Since it is only good on one computer at a time you will have to uninstall it from the first computer. In theory you do not have to use an email account to activate the one-computer Office licenses.

Thanks for your feedback. It does have a card with the product key on it. Under the product key it says retail. The box doesn’t contain a disk, it only has a product key card in it. The box says No disk on the outside.
I downloaded the trial version of Visio and then tried to activate it. The activation requires an email address which prompts me to sign in to a Microsoft account. Every account that I have treid says that it doesn’t have a valid license. I think this key may be a one shot deal, but the message from Microsoft doesn’t say that when I enter the key.
I have no idea how to see who’s email address it was originally registered to. It sounds like you are getting 2 processes confused.
